Week Ending - March 28th, 1999
This week was a gentle reminder
that the weather and tide are everything
in saltwater fishing.
The combination of weak tide and strong wind made a recipe for a very
tough fishing week. Snook were tough to find, the few fish that we did
find, just didn't want to eat. Although redfish were more available, they
too were difficult to feed. We found redfish along the mangrove shorelines,
and in the sandy depressions along the oyster bars. Our success with reds
was marginal, requiring a lot of patience and time.
Trout fishing is pretty reliable, and this week was no different. We spent
some time on the deep depressions on the flats where small pilchards and
shrimp worked well. I have to say, the size of the trout that we have
been catching have improved tremendously, giving this fishery a lot more
interest.
I am looking forward to next week, and hopefully have my revenge.
Until then, Many tight lines,
Capt. Rey Rodriguez
